Family business...

  Family businesses used to be common back in the day, but you don't see them much anymore. Things have gotten a lot tougher these days on family businesses.Trying to stay ahead of the curve and compete with businesses that have huge advertising budgets, skilled legal staffsand slick business knowhow is not easy. Heck, even the Mafia couldn't compete.

  That's why we love to get a chance to work with fellow family business owners like the People at JT Plumbing. Owned and operated by the Thompson brothers, JT Plumbing typifies how a good family business should work. Their quality of work has allowed them to thrive and grow- even in this terrible economy- while relying on simple word of mouth advertising. Needless to say, we are huge fans.

  We have done a lot of work with these guys, mostly on residential projects. But occasionally we get a chance to help them out with some light commercial stuff, too. This video shows a job we did for them in Atlanta. We were replacing the water service for a home that had quite a bit of landscaping, which could not be disturbed. Further complicating the matter, there was almost no room to set up without being out in the road. 

  One advantage we have over most companies that specialize in roadside infrastructure builds is our tiny "footprint." In other words, we can fit where most others can't. We set up our drill rig on top of the water meter and shot under the landscaping, beneath two sidewalks, through the "tree save" area to the water line stub out on the side of the house. None of the landscaping was damaged, and the job was a success.  All told, it only took us about an hour and a half to complete the job and get out of their way.  

  In the end, while we enjoy getting a chance to work with all sorts of companies big and small, there is something special about working with a family business... after all, nothing beats family.




 


   

What would we do without plumbers?

Seriously, there are a lot of jobs out there where a person can support themselves, without ever having to touch poo. While we teach our kids to admire the bold astronaut, the intrepid fireman, and the rugged cowboy, the lowly plumber goes about his business earning his money the hard way ... without any of the heraldry that goes along with a more glamorous vocation.

Here at atlantaboring.com, we feel that it's about time these guys and gals got a break. 


One of Atlanta's most trusted plumbing companies is Mr. Plumber. They have a fine reputation for quality work and reliable service. On December 5th 2011, the folks at Mr. Plumber got in touch with us about a job that looked like a tough one. The home owner had a leak in her water service line. After determining that the line was an older blue "poly" line, Mr. Plumber recommended a full replacement.

Back in the day, this would have been a tough job. It would have required trenching up the yard and sidewalk, running a new line through the walls or ceiling, and some major restoration work involving landscape, concrete, and drywall repair ... a real quagmire. 

That's where Trucraft came on the scene. We were able to bore from the water meter to the utility room in under an hour and pull back a brand new copper water line. This saved our friends ... the humble and hard working plumbers ... a ton of time, while cutting their overall job cost dramatically, enabling them to make money while saving their client a chunk of cash.

At the end of the day, plumbers still have one of the toughest - and often smelliest - jobs around. So it is nice to be able to lend a helping hand. We hope we can make their day a little easier, and their projects go a little smoother, so that they can sit back, relax, and go with the flow.

Creative Solar USA

Aren't you about fed up with the term "Green?" Me too! The problem is, most of the time "Green" doesn't even really MEAN anything. Yet over and over we are told we need to buy "Green" this or "Green" that if we want to avoid total environmental catastrophe. That being said, at Trucraft, we believe that we should do what we can to live and work in a way that protects the environment and preserves our beautiful Georgia eco-system. That's why we were thrilled to get the chance to work with the great people at Creative Solar USA on a project that will allow their client to actually sell power back to the grid. Since their client is obviously "eco-conscious," Creative Solar USA needed to find a construction method with minimal impact on the environment, while maintaining cost effectiveness.

Our task was to place several conduits that would connect a "solar parking canopy" to the transformer supplying the building with power. To accomplish this task, we decided to use the directional boring method of trenchless construction. This would allow us to:

 1. Navigate the 200 feet between our targets accurately

 2. Avoid damaging the existing parking lot and landscaping 

3. Safely cross multiple utilities

 4. Pull back conduits of sufficient size

5. Have minimal impact on the environment in the way of erosion / excavation / runoff

The job went well and our end of the construction only took aout 4 hours to complete. It was great to work with the talented professionals at Creative Solar USA on a project that not only could save their client money, but could help to preserve the lovely state we call home. In the end, I guess it can feel pretty good to "Go Green."

Here is a shot taken while our bore was in progress. Our locator box is that little speck behind the Ford truck. At this point in the day, we were about halfway done with the bore.

This a a picture taken just after we removed our puller from the conduits. As you can see, the actual excavation is pretty small and there is minimal mud or runoff involved.
